Brief
"Design a set of scheduling items for an academic conference, including a timetable poster and a mobile interface for navigating the conference program."
Printed Schedule
Research
For this element of the project, I researched various timetables and printed time interfaces, including train, airline, and course schedules, to determine an effective layout for navigating these events. Based on landscape analyses and test feedback, I found that a grouped schedule, with a horizontal time axis and vertical grouped axis to be the most effective.
Execution
I created this schedule with a vertical axis grouped by floor and room to enable easy navigation. The biggest challenge I faced was the volume of events; with over 100 events, I had to reduce information and type size to fit the information within a single double-sided page. I primarily utilized Akzidenz-Grotesk Condensed for its high legibility at small point sizes, and employed an alternating row pattern using my spot color to enhance readability within the design.
Mobile Interface
Research
My research for this portion of the project mainly focused on styling and layout of existing schedule applications. Based on my investigation of user needs, I developed additional features beyond the calendar for this application, including user-curated event collections, a forum, and integrated messaging.
Execution
I developed the final mockup for this project using Figma, following a Sketch → Lo-Fi → Hi-Fi → Prototype workflow. I focused on the core features, utilized the branding I had developed in the first segment of the product, and created the final prototype demonstration from a typical user flow.
